Client: Self Initiated
Role: Information Design
Being a big film fan, I started to track the films I watched. After a while, I accumulated a large list which could be manipulated into a fun infographic. The visualization was developed in Nodebox using a variety of complex node groups to source datasets and arrange them in a radial fashion. This project allowed me to explore a 'data to design' pipeline.
I compiled the data manually by adding key information to a spreadsheet. I recorded film titles, year of release, genre, month watched and whether I viewed them at a film festival. I took this data and imported it into my Nodebox node set-up which allowed me to create the visualisation. I adjusted the design in Illustrator to refine the typography, colouring and additional graphical elements.
This project began in 2017 where I started to track the films I watched. The initial design was meant to resemble the cross-section of the eye. As the years progressed, I refined the overall shape and the way I visualized certain elements. This project ended in 2020 where I had watched over a 1000 films over the past 4 years.
2017 - 136 films | 2018 - 156 films | 2019 - 450 films | 2020- 405 films
